KARACHI: Frequent power failures occurred in areas along I I Chundrigar Road on Monday, causing problems for residents as well as office workers, particularly that of newspapers. When a KESC office was contacted it was stated that tripping of feeder occurred due to some problem at Elander Road Grid Station, but there was no report of any major fault and it would be cleared soon. Power outage that was reported first around 6 pm continued repeatedly till 9 pm.

Meanwhile, intermittent supply of power was also reported from various areas including Federal B Area, North Karachi, Super Highway, Surjani Town, Nazimabad No 3, North Nazimabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block-2, Society area, Orangi, Baldia, Lyari, Shershah and Liaquatabad.

HYDRANTS: Nisar Hussain Baloch, a resident of Old Golimar, Trans Lyari, in a letter has pointed out that despite official orders dozens of hydrants were operating in areas like Mewa Shah, Gutter Baghicha and Taj Aulia Road within the jurisdiction of Pak Colony police station.

He recalled that on February 12 DC West had issued an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting trade of water through hydrants situated in different areas of District West. These hydrants were destroying public health, roads and public property. He observed that continued operation of illegal hydrants was tantamount to mockery of the DC's order.
