Customers frustrated after ANZ teller machines' break down

ANZ EFTPOS facilities are back up and running after breaking down for up to eight hours this morning due to a systems failure.

However, some 200 of 1,100 ATMs nationwide are still out of order and are expected to be fixed in the next few hours.

It is the second time in two months the ANZ's electronic network has broken down.

The bank's Michelle Gibbings says she can understand people's frustration at the breakdown.

"As a customer I would be frustrated if I were not able to access cash through the facilities that I normally use," Ms Gibbings said.

"Certainly we would apologize to any customers that have been inconvenienced.

"I guess I would point out that there were other facilities, or other distribution channels that customers could use during the day," she said.

"Phone banking has been working and our branch network has been operating as per normal," Ms Gibbings said.
