I tried to encode some avi files using xing encoder. I beleive these files have the mp43 codec. The encoding does not work. If I encode only the video part than it's ok but then there is no sound. What is this mp43 codec and how is the sound and video put together using this? Is there any way to encode this type of files to create a vcd. Please help........Thanks....

I suggest that you get a $500 encoder called Heuris MPEG Power Professional 1. It is a $500 product that turns your AVI or MOV file into MPEG1 and makes it "Toast-ready" for easily burning a VCD. Don't get the $99 Heuris MPEG Export Engine (doesn't allow you to make VCDs) and don't get the $1500 MPEG Power Professional 2 (which makes some form of DVD). You can get it at http://www.terran.com and it is available for both Macintosh and Windows.

not sure if this is it, but here goes: the mp43 sounds like it may be mpeg4 video, and mp3 audio, kinda like used with the divx codec. you may want to try seperating the file into video and audio files, use something like winamp to convert the mp3 to wav, then use xing to encode the two back together. I use xing encoder, and had some trouble encoding divx avi's that had mp3 audio streams, but when i started using divx with mpeg4 video and uncompressed audio, xing encoded it fine, and the quality was pretty good. Just need to find some freeware demuxer to seperate the video and audio streams, although i cannot think of any names right now, will post again if i can figure out a demuxer for you.
