image quality wise, nikon wins. the casio has quite a few features that match the nikon closely... but from what i see at all the reviews and samples at IR and other sites, i would say the nikon has more features than the casio, esxcept of the lack of CFII support like the casio does with the bundled microdrive. but you said money is no object so just buy a 160mb CFI card...

I own a QV-3000EX and chose it over the 990 because of its faster (f/2 vs. f2.8) lens which makes it a better choice for handheld, candid available light photography (w/o flash). However, if image quality were paramount I would give the Nikon the edge, also if you needed to make time exposures with a tripod the 990 produces less noisy images, as well as its having a much better placed tripod socket than the Casio. The Nikon also has a threaded lens for accessories (filters, tele-extenders, etc) which the Casio lacks. However, if price is important, the Casio definitely gives you more bang for your buck.

I chose the Casio over the Nikon primarily due to the problem with red-eye as well as the inability to support CF Type II cards (read "microdrive").

I chose the QV3000EX over the Nikon 950/990 because of a couple of reasons.

1) I dislike the way the lens rotates on the Nikon. It makes it harder for me to use.

2) I prefer the 340 MB micro-drive of the Casio.

3) I like the manual features (even if some are hidden, aka a little hard to get to). I just took a night shot of the Texas State Capitol. Hand held, 1/60 of sec, let camera select F-stop (probably 2.8 at telephoto) and got a good shot.

4) Price. For the price, the Casio provides me more bang.
