Title: Members Claim House Computers Outdated

Story Filed: Thursday, April 13, 2000 9:01 PM EST

Nairobi (The Nation, April 13, 2000) - There was a stir in the House yesterday when three MPs claimed that computers in Parliament were not Y2K compliant.

Fafi MP Barre Shill had spotted a wrong date on the morning's Order Paper. Three pages of the paper were dated "December 12, 2000" instead of "April 12, 2000". Only two pages had the correct date.

Rangwe MP Shem Ochuodho (NDP), a computer expert, said Parliament's computers were not compliant. The same sentiments were expressed by Matuga MP Suleiman Kamolleh (Kanu). The Deputy Speaker, Mr. Joab Omino, who was in the Chair, said the mistake had been noted.

Dr Ochuodho asked the Minister for Energy to bring a list of rural electrification programmes in every district up to the current financial year.

Nominated MP Joseph Munyao (DP) demanded a ministerial statement on the whereabouts of a civic candidate abducted by a DO in Keiyo.
