NewAlloc Vs ChecAlloc

greenspun.com : LUSENET : SQL Server Database Administration : One Thread

Eric,

Is Checkalloc is better off than Newalloc as Microsoft recommends to use Checkalloc altough both of them are identical? If yes, can you explain?

Thanks,

Kothan.

Kothan,

What has happened is that Checkalloc has always existed, then in version 6.5, Newalloc was introduced and was slightly different.

Now in version 7.0 (because of SQL Server changes) the two functions do exactly the same things. Therefore, in the next version, SQL 2000, Microsoft may remove the one called Newalloc.

Since Microsoft has put us all on notice that the Newalloc may be removed, it makes sense for us all to use Checkalloc from version 7.0 forward.

Hope this helps,

Eric
