Hi, im a level four trainer who cannot get his monsters to beat an S class tournament. I don't know how to raise them strong enough, maybe you guys could tell me what combinations to use so it starts out with high stats or something because im clueless. Thanks

-- Danny (djblade404@aol.com), February 23, 2000 Answers Here's some basic raising tips that will expand your monster's lifespan (and therefore let you build up their stats more): 1. Feed it Milk for the first 5 months of its life, at least.

2. Don't let it get tired. You see those "fatigue" arrow marks that they put on Drills, Errantries, etc.? The thin ones are worth one "unit" of fatigue, and the thick ones are worth two units. A young monster shouldn't build up more than three units before sleeping, and a mature monster shouldn't build up more than four.

3. Don't let the monster get Fat or Skinny, which increases stress. Stress reduces lifespan. Use Mint Leaves to relieve it when it starts building up, or battle in order to take off alot of pressure (fight at least twice a year, but not too much, because lots of battles start to hurt a monster's lifespan).

4. Don't try to raise a Bad monster until you get used to the game: Raise Good and Best-Natured monsters by praising them or scolding them when your assistant prompts you to.

5. When a monster is first born, they won't get good stat boosts. The longer it takes them to get good, the longer they'll live, so be patient. When the monster starts to get old, its stat gains will go bad again, EXCEPT for the stuff you get after battles (which means that lots of battles for the elderly is good for capping off those stats).

6. For a beginner, don't try to raise all of your monster's stats evenly. Find out what it does best and concentrate on those things. Then combine it with whatever monster the Lab guy says will make a "Good" or "Fine" combination.

7. Just because you're trying to avoid fatigue, don't be afraid to take as many errantries as you need to get enough moves for your monster.

8. Read the archives around here: They'll answer most of your questions.

9. Some monster that have all-around great stat gains are:

*Golem/Plant

*Golem/Tiger

*Zilla/Tiger

*Tiger/Golem

*Phoenix

*Joker

Hmmm....running outta time, gotta go!
