infinite life?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B's Monster Rancher 2 : One Thread

This forum has almost gotten to the stage where it is no longer needed. Realms still unexplored: combining, a little bit left on techs, effects of food and drills that Dark Phoenix is working on, and that's about it. But is all of this really need if you monster can live forever??

I'm not sure if this will work but I think it might: Because magic bananas add a week to lifespan when loyalty decreases 10 and do nothing when loyalty goes up 5, it would be possible to have a dummy monster rest through the weeks while on every week you bring your real monster out and give him a banana and then put him back. Two weeks go +5 and then the next go -10. Therefore your monster doesn't age and keeps gaining weeks! I half hope that this works and half hope that it doesn't because it would take away some of the challenge of the game. If it does, I'll probably ban it from my household just because I like Monster Rancher 2 so much.

P.S. I still think these unexplored realms matter, I just thought that the question would be a good way to start off my thread. HEHE!

Answers No it doesn't work. It has been tried and tested. Your monster will only live from 6 to 8 years this way. No infinite life. The theory sounds like it might work, but has been proven not to. Sorry.

Also, the effects of food, disc chips, and (knowing Nate) probably techniques have all been discovered. We have even crafted the loss of lifespan to an art. I'm sure that you know this, but it didn't sound like it.

What if u did this: -Raise your monster on the 4th week ONLY -Give him a MB EVERY week and make sure u get the 10- effect -Should look like this (HD,HD,REST/MB,TAB,MB,TAB,MB,TAB) now I know loyalty drops like a rock BUT u should be able to max your stats with out ANY ageing. Then raise normaly to get loyalty back up. Best of all failures DON'T MATTER because if your monster has an infinite amount of time then you can just make the failure up later, and the tabs SHOULD take care of stress as long as your monster likes them. -Al

P.S. this is my first time trying to wright a strat so it might not work!

That method has already been invented! It belongs to Dark Phoenix. Oh, and NEVER let your monster fail, unless you are trying to be soft on it!

Nooooo in DP's method u give a MB every OTHER week. Hope that clears this up -Al

Remember, you can't give a monster two items on one week IN ITS OWN TIMELINE. Putting it in the freezer is putting it in stasis, so whenever you bring it out, it'll still be EXACTLY the same, which includes whether it's had an item that week. You can trade off ten different monsters in one week and give them all items, though...in other words, it depends on the monster's perception of time, not yours.

It is possible to do Dark Phoenix's method by feeding it a magic banana every week. As soon as your loyalty drops to 0, how are you ever going to tell if your monster has lost exactly 10 loyalty each time you feed it a banana? At most, your monster will have 5 points of loyalty at the beginning of each week, due to the feeding of the tablet. Therefore, by feeding it a banana, you will probably know that loyalty drops, but you won't know if the loyalty dropped 5 or 10 points. Thus, you will have a theoretically infinite lifespan if you lose 10 loyalty everytime. However, by keeping with the laws of probability, you should be able to get a -10 points of loyalty drop every 2 weeks. Half the bananas are -5 and the other half being -10 (a 50% chance either way).

But you know what? Dark Phoenix's method guarantees that 50% chance to happen, because you can actually see the loyalty drop of 10 points. The bad thing is, you won't be able to get that monster with infinite lifespan, but then again, what's the chances of that happening? Answer: your probability of getting a monster with infinite lifespan becomes infinitely low, as your banana usage goes to infinite.

Here is another proposition for infinite lifespan:

At the end of your monster's lifepspan, it will die. Reload back to the previous week, and feed it a magic banana. This should be able to keep it alive until the next week. Your training schedule will look like this: (HD,rest,HD,rest) (MB,MB,MB,MB). Your loyalty will drop to 0 just like the other proposed method, but you WILL be able to tell when your monster has gotten the -10 or not. How? because if you don't get it, you'll die the next week!

What's bad about this? 1) you'll only be able to get 2 - 3 points per drill. 2) by the time you've maxxed out your monster, it will have no loyalty to actually do anything! 3) takes a freakin long time. I'm talking maybe a month to max out one stupid monster, if not using Dark Phoenix's method previous to death.

Well I learned a lot from this thread. The infinite life thing wouldn't be very practical. Oh well, not sure if I wanted it to work out anyway.
