Independant confirmation of ??? monsters

After getting burned several times with CD's that don't produce the cool creature advertised, I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread where people confirm what they found, and list which experiences they had that didn't match up with net lore (and also respond with exact information to help isolate specific printings I.e. weather it's an extra track in some printings causing the problem, or a confusion between soundtrack and instrumental music from the movie etc. etc.) so... I can confirm: Shania Twain 'woman in me' produces mia, monster ranche 1 produces sueki suezo (duh), Men in Black soundtrack produces chinois, The Crow city of angels soundtrack produces cawken, and 3rd eye blind (self tittled) produces ruby knight. I dispute (at least on the basis of curent information and experience): Terminator 2: judgement day soundtrack (brad fiedel, varese sarabande digital, 1991) no rare, Titanic soundtrack (vocal) no rare, x files: songs in the key of x (was there more than one of these?) no rare, and Beastie Boys 'licensed to ill' (columbia, 1986, plane crash cover, 13 tracks with apparent bonus track (i.e. for those who don't know how to tell there is a gap visible on the shiny side of the cd between the bulk of the written on album and another smaller writen on area at the outside edge, if you look at a cd that has one you will know what I'm talking about)) no rare. I encourage you to list even those cd's I have already confirmed, as someone who might not trust me might trust B campbell for example (I should hope they would trust him in anycase :)) So let's get to the bottom of this!

Just got back from hollywood video and have a few more fills for you all. It bears pointing out that the playstation specials are more reliable in that a) there are a gazillion fewer ps games than music cd's and thus multiple printings, confusing titles, and different contents of discs with the same title (e.g. an instrumental and a vocal version) are not factors and b) for the same reason there should be much more overlap in the diffent collections of playstation owners, so it would be easier for people to spot a phony. That being said... Confirmed: Metal Gear solid (disc 1) produced soldier gaboo, Dead or Alive produced kasumi (love that flavor text :)), Techmo super bowl produced forward golem, Gex 3 produced frog hopper, and finally devil dice produced dice.

Here's the CDs I have that I've found "???" monsters on (i.e. I've actually checked these and found them, not just passing along what I've heard):

Devil Dice [Playstation game]--Dice (ColorPandora/???) Monster Rancher [Playstation game]--Sueki Suezo (Suezo/???) The Firesign Theatre: How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All? [Original Master Recording edition]--Caloriena (Mocchi/???)

I'm not approved for all kinds of monsters yet, so I may have a few more on my non-approved CDs. I'll let you know if I find any more.

Thanks for all coming togerther on this, a few additional requests: Part of the reason I started this thread was to help each other find out which VERSIONS work and not just which are bogus/real. Therefore, when you have had succes with a cd that someone up the list didn't (e.g. james lainheart appears to have a different printing of liscenced to ill than I do) please include as much information as possible about the cd so we can try to isolate the different printings. I.e. was there an extra track band on yours, was it the same year, cover, publisher that I listed, etc. Similarly, if you had a copy that DIDN'T produce a rare (e.g. nirvana nevermind) give us all the info possible on that so we know what to avoid. I remember in mr1 there was also a rare (supposedly anyway) on nevermind, but it was only on the version that did NOT have the extra track (which is almost impossible to find), so I'm kind of curious if it's the same version this time or if they flip flopped it. Finally, I've seen a couple on here that I hadn't heard of before, by which I mean Fade's list didn't match up with that particular cd ;). so if the folks who mentioned the calorina mocchi and the silver suezo could give me a bit more detail on those cd's (particularly the suezo, I can go to a record store and order the firesign theater, but with the info given I have no idea how I would go about getting a copy of the computer cd that produced a silver suezo for liam). Thanks again everybody, may you all one day have full card sets!

The best place to do this is probably the CD list board. I suggest you take all of this over there, where it will be even more helpful.

B campbell: If that is your wish I will certainly do so, but there really isn't any good way to compare results over there and teach each other which specific printings are needed. I.e. it's set up to tell each other what worked for us on the cd list, but not what didn't, and i didn't wan't to clutter the entries up with a lot of 'well gee, MY copy of so and so gave me a crappy gaboo'. That's why I thought of doing it this way, e.g. I just borrowed a copy of TLC's 'Fan Mail' from a friend and it didn't have a rare suezo on it but rather a prince hare, however it was from the limited edition of the cd. Now I wouldn't have thought it appropriate to start or add to a thread on the cd list only to say 'TLC doesn't work for me', especially since I asume most people check the 'new answers' section of the message board fairly regularly, but I doubt many cruise the "new answers' for the cd list anywhere near as often. It is your board though and if that's how you want me to do it I will.

What would be best would be just to add a note in the thread with the 'rare' CD. That's not too hard because everu rare one had a /??? subbreed, making it easy to scan for rare CD's with different printings. As time goes by (and as I have more free time) I will continue to compress messages on that board into single 'lists' so that it's easier to see all the results for specific monsters... so what I'll do is just add the note into the overall message.

probably the best way to do this, however, is to have all the info on a webpage somewhere. I don't have the time to implement that right now, but I'm sure some other webmaster out there would love to do this. My concern is that this thread will end up having people saying the same things (it's already quite long), and that it will eventually get buried, the subject will come up again, and we'll go though this all over again.

-- B Campbell (Apparatus@juno.com), November 15, 1999.

I can totaly understand your reasoning, I'm just concerned that there is no real motivation for someone to check a monster/??? thread if they already have the monster, which kind of defeats my purpose of helping people who can't get something off a specific cd find out where they went wrong (as I have myself about 50% of the time if you check my record on music cd's). These cd's can be expensive... the best way would probably be a separate page as you say, perhaps someone who ISN'T a full time senior in college (in the theater department no less), as I am, who knows SOMETHING about webmastering (which I don't) would be able to create a sister site for this purpose. Anyone?

Wildcard: Like I said in my post, the Firesign Theatre How Can You Be in Two Places, etc., CD which produced a Caloriena is an Original Master Recording CD. Since OMR CDs are a lot less common than regular CDs, wouldn't that be all you would really need to know? Torey: Yes, thank you, just let me pull my mucklucks out of the cellophane before they scorch.

Hey WildCard I don't know if this will help any but I got a durhan /??? called Shogun out of a Brave Fencer Muashi Disk. And know forsure it should give it up because I have tried it with two other Muashi disks. Hey I Know how you feel about getting the right for the right monster.

Oh yah by the way have you happened to have come a cross a pure Golem out of any of the disks you have tried. Thanks Vince

-- Vincent Lewis Sr. (scorpian 12@htomail.com), November 15, 1999.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

vincent, if you go back to your mr1 game and use the mr2 game in the shrine, it will give you a pure golem, with unimpressive states but, if you bring it into mr2 using the slate option, it has lik 234 power or somthing in that area.
