update on effect of items on stat gains

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B's Monster Rancher 2 : One Thread

While the first test with a durahan seemed promising, the next test with a phoenix was inconclusive.I tested the phoenix for 1 full year as soon as it entered stage 2 of its lifespan. This seemed a better time than prime, because as RNA pointed out,a 24 in INT would result in a 20(the max). The control was one year of alternating months of swim, leap, and meditate,in that order, to get the max stats from maturity........The test was one year of alternating WEEKS in the best training for that week/item.Tweety did best in med after candy, leap after mint leaf, and the same avg. for swim after nuts oil or mint leaf.So the drill order was med/leap/swim/rest for 1 year. After 2 tests the results were only 6 or 7 points stat gain over the control after 1 year. Not really worth the trouble, since a couple of GREATS one way or the other would even things out. However, there wasn't as much difference in the weekly averages as there was with the Durahan.Maybe it works better with certain types .I'll try again when I combine for my first Garuda!

-- Argos (stanrock@uwm.edu), March 15, 2000 Answers I just started trying the advanced methods a few days ago (I finally had enough $$$). I combined a 1st gen Durahan (lived to be 9 yrs. 2 mos. HOF, etc) With a 2nd gen Phoenix (All lived over 6 1/2 yrs). My result was a Garuda. Eagle Fierce had told me what an incrdible monster they are, and he wasn't lying. I decided to try The Man's method first, since his seems to be the easiest to follow. The results amazed me. He is only 7yrs. old, and is already HOF. I think I pulled him out of his initial training too soon, but he blew through the class battles and M4. I only had 1 restart in all the M4, and that was because I let him fight Drewguard on his own while I took a phone call. I guess I am going to freeze him until the next Legend Cup so he can fight Most (the White Mocchi). He beat Poritoka (the White Suezo) to go HOF. After that, I will train him until he is near death, then freeze until I can find another worthy to combine with Gonzo (my Garuda). I'll probably use RNA's method this time.

Uh, hate to burst your bubble but if you've entered the Hall your monster can't fight in the Legend Cup again. The game won't let you. Sorry

Try using RNA's or Dark Phoenix's method. I think those two have given the upmost optimum results.

OOPS.I should have explained again. It seems as if some monsters get better than normal stats in specific drills after using certain items. For example, better gains on meditate on weeks using a mint leaf than meditate on weeks using nuts oil or candy.I normally use RNA's method, which recommends drilling in the same stat till you are done with it.I'm not sure where I would use an item specific improvement using rna's method.Maybe throwing in an occasional drill in a weak area on it's best week. But first I have to see if this would actually work, which hasn't been proven!

Hmm... It's hard to tell where you're going with this experiment. What is your initial theory, Argos? The results seem too insignificant to matter as of now. Where is your initial experiment with the durahan? Tony, once you've used Dan The Man's method, there's really no point in using mine. They basically do the same things, except Dan's method produced 17% greater stat gains during stage 2 and stage 3's prime. Though you may want to read it through just for the advice.

I agree about the insignificant part at this point. However, the first test with a durahan, showed a 10 point improvement over 3 months.I was hoping to see if that could be improved. The initial theory was that certain drills got better stats after specific item use. This could be attributed to the effect of the item or the item itself. As for where I'm going with the experiment,it appears to be nowhere. But sometimes an experiment proves something DOESN'T work.If you want??? the data from the initial experiment I can post it.

or if you don't have much money, check out a semi-good{my opinion}raising method I wrote it and so far it's worked pretty good

Very well put, Argos. It is just as important to prove something doesn't work, as it is to prove something does work. However, those who prove things DO work tend to be more widely known. In any case, I'll keep your experiments under consideration the next time I look at items and their relationships with drills. You don't need to post the experiment again, but you can tell me where it is instead.
