A major explosion of the 132 KV control room at Shiroro Hydro Power Station has park-up with injured four staff of the station and destroyed part of a building of the station.

Conducting newsmen round the station, the Principal Manager, Transmission of the station, Mr. Clifford A. Ngwakwe explained that the five explosion was caused by idle cylinder of a carbodioxide fire extinguisher kept near the 132 KV control room building.

He added that two of the four persons were fatally injured and were receiving medical attention at IBB Specialised Hospital, Minna. Ngwakwe disclosed that the explosion was for the nationwide power outage.

The principal manager, added that the transmission switchyard which currently generates about 450 megawatts of its 600 megawatt installed capacity to the national gird, experienced a total loss of power supply on March 10, due to system disturbance at Jebba which affected the station.

He said engineers at the Shiroro generating power station made frantic efforts between 6.37 and 6.54 hrs that same day, to restore power on the 132 KV Shiroro, Minna, Suleja and Abuja transmission lines.

According to him none of the station's transformer was damaged or lost during the fire out break noting that the station was working above average capacity.
