Question for RNA: Raising and Life Stages (repost)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B's Monster Rancher 2 : One Thread

RNA - I've started working with your method on my newest monster - a Cinder Bird (Phoenix/???) I have named Raven. I'd already been through the Major 4 and the Legend cup a number of times, so I figured I'd try something a little different; therefore your method.

Raven is a first generation monster currently with some fairly respectable stats - LIF ~550, POW (sucks) ~150, INT ~999, SKI ~680, SPD ~820, DEF ~900. He is currently 6yr6mth and has gone through the Major 4 and the Legend Cup (I also have a silver peach from his Elder cup triumph).

My basic questions are in this series:

1. Do these seem like respectable stats for a first gen monster with this method (I have not used the freezing part, and I think I fudges a little bit between when Stage2 ended and Stage 3 started).

2. What can I expect as an average for life expectency for this monster (both with and without peaches - and first gen). I only have a silver peach as I do not spend a lot of time on expeditions.

3. What would be a good subset of monster to combine this monster with when I am ready to do so?

Thanks for the help.

That doesn't sound much like RNA, he's usually pretty polite. Maybe you should wait a little longer and see if you get a better answer from another RNA.

That was not RNA. This is a great board for content, but since there is no registry system, you have to put up with an occasional imposter.

-- Farmer Jimbo (honcho7@excite.com), January 20, 2000.

i thought RNA left, but thats just me.

-- Spot (spot___@hotmail.com), January 20, 2000.

No RNA is still around he just doesn't answer that many questions. And that sure sounds like an imposter RNA to me.

-- The Man (djedmond@pinenet.com), January 20, 2000.

That's quite a description of me. You've stereotyped me down to the typical nutty professor. So I'm a snotty, cocky, dirty, work- absorbed, girlfriend-deprived, momma's boy..... right? It's kinda funny that you see me that way. Well, I guess it can't be helped since my nickname is science-based and my work seems to be pretty scientific.

You make me sound so old! When I think "scientist," I think "old fart." By analyzing your grammar and your motives for impersonating me, I can tell you that I am probably just a couple years older than you.

Well, enough playtime, it's time to answer the man's questions(no, not "The Man").

1) Well, those stats seem pretty good to me (almost too good for its age). I've heard that cinder birds can get really high stats(higher than a 1st gen phoenix) so you're probably on the right track to getting there. By the way, I don't understand when you say that you "fudged" a little between stage 2 and 3 so I can't comment on that.

2)I have also noticed, from other people's cinder birds, that cinder birds live a little longer than phoenixs. Maybe a few months longer. My 1st gen phoenix lived to 8 years(both peaches) so you can expect your cinder bird to live somewhere around there(both peaches). My phoenix lived this long with approx. 80 battles (not tourneys). The more battles you participate in, the less of an overall lifespan.

Get that golden peach! It is very important that you extend your prime, because....well, it's the prime! In another possibility, you could just get the golden peach later and use it at the end of your phoenix's life so that you can fit in about 10-15 more battles. I never do this though.

3) Try a purebreed wracky or an undine. The best way to get a good combo(that is the most effective), is to make sure that your secondary monster(before raising) makes at least an "unsure" combo with your cinder bird. Then, you can just follow a similar procedure that I did with a mew as seen in the thread, "Good Combos. Let me know about them!" located in the "raising/training" category. However, this takes a long time. The alternative, raise a wracky or an undine and hope that you get a good combo in the end.

Thanks RNA, I'm glad for the assistance. I'll work on the breeding part (I'm not going to be able to get the Golden Peach - at least not for this monster).

This is where he stands : Lived to the ripe age of exactly 7 years old without any peaches - currently frozen at that age with one silver peach in his system so I can use him just a bit longer.

Stats at 7 years old - LIF 580, POW 214, INT 992, SKI 706, SPD 834, DEF 879 (I did start to use the freezing process here, but I also used him to go through both an expedition and the speed errantry so I could finally get my Jill - he probably would have lived a little longer otherwise).

I said fudged between stages 2 and 3 because I wasn't completely sure when he hit stage 3 and I think I started moving him up the class ranks (E,D,C,B....) a little early.

That's about it for the moment. A Purebred Wracky or Undine huh. I'm not usre I have the patience to raise a purebred Wracky (the beginning stats are horrible), how about a couple of different Wracky mixes that might work? (I currently have a Wracky/Pixie that's somewhat respectable). I'd have to look at the Undines; I haven't tried to raise one yet. I've got a purebred Durahan that I'm working on; but I'm not sure that would reflect with the Cinder Bird 'cause the Durahan is more power based.

Oh well, that's where I am. I look forward to any other comments you may have.

-- M Isadore Schwartz (schwartz@ecl.udel.edu), January 21, 2000.

Actually, Durahan is the only monster that Phoenix will combine with to get another species. The combination, while in Dadge's opinion "it doesn't look so good", is actually a very good Durahan (at least that's my opinion) named Garuda.

-- Eagle Fierce (grimm@eurekanet.com), January 21, 2000.

Actually I thought of RNA as a smart person that wasn't a very sociable person but then looking in some other posts I got to know him better and now I think of him as a very intelligent, helpful person, that likes Tecno music(who doesn't?). But Hey.

-- Zack (belgrath16@aol.com), January 21, 2000.

Hmmm... I didn't realize that you had mentioned "subset" in your original question, #3. I automatically thought that you meant to ask about a monster that will combine with your cinder bird to get a "good" combo, since not too many people ask about the subbreeds that can go with a phoenix. Well, Eagle fierce was right. The only time you'll see a phoenix as a subset of another monster(besides a purebreed or a rare), would be a (Durahan/Phoenix). I actually told you the answer for getting a good combo with your monster.

About your cinder bird, I'd have to say that it is quite an impressive monster, especially since you haven't even fed it a golden peach yet. If you ever get around to using a golden peach, you could probably get another 400pts or so + additional cash from battles.

Actually, there's a way to raise a wracky to be alot better than any 1st gen monster could ever achieve. It involves paradoxines, but the details are somewhat scattered through the thread that contains my method. A wracky/pixie should work out just as good. Remember, even if you're not going to try to "force" your (wracky/pixie) into a "good" combo, as seen with my example, you should at least make sure that they start off with an "unsure" combo or better.

It is probably true that a (durahan/phoenix) would be an awesome monster due to its stat aquisition in all 6 stats plus a long lifespan. However, getting a durahan and a phoenix into a decent combo will be quite hard, if not impossible, as exampled by eagle fierce.

If you're looking mainly to getting a high stat monster that is capable of breaking the 5000pt barrier, then I suggest you find a "fine/good/great" combo.

But if you don't really want one of these, then try combining your phoenix and your durahan for the garuda, probably one of the most powerful monsters in the game.

Zack, how exactly did you come to the conclusion that I like techno? I'm not saying that I don't, I'm just curious as to how you came to that conclusion, that's all.

Lucky Guess?

-- Zack (belgrath16@aol.com), January 22, 2000.

I guess you could call it tecno, cause the music often sounds that way. However, they tend to put it into another genre. Can you guess?

-- RNA (RNA@Ribosome.nuc), January 25, 2000.

I have no clue, but since it's a guess i'll say hip-hop

I doubt that.

Hey RNA, how about Industrial?

-- M Isadore Schwartz (schwartz@ecl.udel.edu), January 25, 2000.

You guys are all wrong. Zack is the closest.... but then again, he did list a whole bunch.

Actually, if you looked around the board, you could find a bunch of cds that I've used in my examples. Unfortunately, none of those cds depict the type of music I listen to.... they're not even mine.

Shouldn't we be talking about Monster rancher 2?

-- RNA (RNA@Ribosome.nuc), January 26, 2000.

Theorieticaly (I know thats spelled wrong) RNA. I only know one CD you used to get a pure wracky. The Godzilla Soundtrack. I doubt thats right though. So which one was the closest? All the music stores near me have a Techno Music Section so I wouldn't know. I also know that you have (borrowed) The Backstreet Boy's Millineium CD along with the Men In Black soundtrack. I certainly hope you don't listen to those.

-- Zack (belgrath16@aol.com), January 26, 2000.

Curious curious Zack. Wouldn't you like to know? I'll give you one hint though: I watch pokimon. To find the answer, you must look deeper into the hint than "meets the ear."

-- RNA (RNA@Ribosome.nuc), January 27, 2000.

Your a very odd, yet intelligent, but still very odd person RNA...

-- Vheod (Vheod@hotmail.com), January 29, 2000.

Okay, RNA. I go under the assumption then that you're into J-Pop.

-- M Isadore Schwartz (schwartz@ecl.udel.edu), January 29, 2000.

Wow! I wish I could start taking bets or sumthin'. Teenagers Like me have way tomuch time on our hands.

-- Morlin (Not@here.com), January 29, 2000.

Good guess, M Isadore Schwartz. See, that wasn't such a hard hint. Yes, I like J-pop and anime music. They have great dance music, japanese anime - kinda like tecno.

Just in case you're wondering - I am not Japanese nor do I speak or understand the language. I simply enjoy the way that their language sounds and I am more into the "melody" of the song than the "lyrics."

"Pure Again" off the Breath of Fire III game sounds nifty, even though I can't understand a word they're singing ^_^.
