Title: Homelite Power Blowers Recalled

Story Filed: Wednesday, April 12, 2000 10:59 AM EDT

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Some 200,000 gasoline powered blowers were recalled on Tuesday because of a fire and burn hazard, the Consumer Products Safety Commission said.

Plastic engine covers on the Homelite combination blower-vacuums may cause a gasoline leak by rubbing against the fuel line, the commission said.

The blowers were made by John Deere Consumer Products Inc., of Charlotte, N.C. which joined with the commission for a voluntary recall after two reports of leaks. There have been no reports of fires or injuries, the CSPC said.

The blowers, painted red and black, were sold throughout the United States by Home Depot, Eagle Hardware and Ace Hardware between August 1998 and January 2000. Homelite service dealers will make free inspections and repairs. They can be located by calling the John Deere firm toll free at 1-800-242-4672.
