Title: World Apologizes For Poll Mistake

April 12, 2000

Joe Worley

The Tulsa World's credibility with its readers is very important to us. We know that our ability to be fair and accurate with news stories is paramount in how our readers judge whether we meet that standard.

In Thursday's newspaper, some results of the Oklahoma Poll concerning evolution and creationism were inaccurately reported.

Consumer Logic, the survey firm that we contract to conduct the Oklahoma Poll gave us inaccurate numbers.

Dan Jarrett, president of Consumer Logic, formerly Tulsa Surveys, said, ``We deeply regret our mistake and the harm it may have caused the Tulsa World, their reporters and the editorial staff.''

The information gathered in the survey was accurate, but when Consumer Logic compiled the information using a new version of computer software, a programming mistake resulted in the errors.

The Tulsa World wants to correct the story of April 6 with the accompanying story. We wanted to do that as quickly and completely as we could. We apologize for this mistake.
