2nd try-Can rule of thirds be broken?

I personally love compositions like your shot, it's diferent and it works well for me. Hey, it's your camera & film so go ahead & push a few "rules". Well done.

Nice shot Carlyn. I would say it feels a bit crowded at the very top and bottom to me. The fact that the cat is crouching a bit lessens the problem for me but it would be nice to have a bit more room above the cat and below his replection. Just my 2cents ...

Good thought here. I think there is too much distracting information from the waters edge to the feet of your subject. Do you have any shots of him closer to the water?

You can break the rule anytime you have a reason to do so. And it does work here except she needs a little more room above her back so it doesn't look like she's being pushed down by the border of the print. It does convey the idea that she owns all the space beneath her.

Good picture. Loosening the crop will help. As for breaking the rule of thirds, technically the cat's feet are near the thirds.
