Thoughts on a spoiler -- *Spoilers* : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Has anyone thought that the possible suicide may be David Greene -- Mark's dad? That is what I think they are leading up to with him. He doesn't want to be a burden on Mark and he doesn't want cancer to define. It is a very socially conscious issue to explore right now.

Oh, I hadn't even thought of that! I can't believe I never made that connection...obviously Carter isn't going anywhere, so David would make sense.

I totally agree. Actually, what would be incredibly interesting is if Mark's feelings would evolve 180 degrees so that he would assist his father (in an ethical way, if that makes sense). Otherwise, if David commited suicide now with Mark feeling the way he does (wanting to care for his dad himself w/o help) I'm not really sure how Mark's going to deal with it. Mark seems to want to do everything because he's not able to let go...if his dad is suddenly gone, it may be harder to take. Sometimes, nursing someone through a terrible illness makes the inevitable more believable, the grief easier to bear. I just hope someone (Elizabeth?) can make Mark see that he's not helping anyone by remaining in denial as he seems to be.

Nancy, after I had posted this I thought of the assisted suicide angle too. Could be very interesting!!

It would also be interesting if Elizabeth helps Mark's dad commit suicide -- what with their burgeoning friendship. He might be more likely to ask her for help than Mark.

Wow. I hadn't even thought of any of this, but it would make perfect sense. I mean, David is making clear he does not want to suffer and he just wants to go the natural way. He's humoring Mark. Not to the extent Mark wants him to, but if David had his way, he'd be in a hospice dying peacefully. And Elizabeth is all for helping David get through this the way HE wants to, not the way Mark wants to. It'll be interesting to see how this fans out.
