OId SAl line between Wildwood and Leesburg, Fla.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

I have been told that the old SAL line between Wildwood and Leesburg, Florida (now Pinsly Florida Midland RR) has been submitted for abandonment. If this is true does anyone in the society know about this? Also is there a web site you can found out this information from the FRRA or Surface Transportation Department. If so please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Dear Allen, The subject trackage was beng taken up last year, 2002. Check with the Florida Central Railroad in Plymouth, FL. One compay receivd service from the railroad. Not cost effective, so railrod had to fold. Don C.

Further to the above answer, the Surface Transportation Board's Web site is: http://www.stb.dot.gov./ On home page Click on Decisions & Notices, then scroll down a chronological list starting with today(April 10, 2000) and going back. This will easier than navigating the Federal Register site.

I have just gone through the On-Line version of the U.S.Government's daily FEDERAL REGISTER, from January 3, 2000 to day(April 10), which would carry any application of railroad abandonment as listed under the Surface Transportation Board Notices. There is no listing in that period for either Florida Midland R.R. or Pinsly Corp. applying to abandon any lines. Thus, F.M.R.R. either applied in 1999 or they have yet to make a formal application. If you wish to search further go to http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/aces/aces140.html There are Table of Contents for each days issue of the Fed.Reg. Click on each day and scroll down to Surface Transportation Board for that days Notices.
