Glad to hear it. Now, let's see some proof. Independent truckers are going out of business every day due to high diesel prices.

Ahhhhh....another *under* educated opionionist I see. Please read below from this previous thread (or click on the link): Shortages at the Gas Pump This Summer?

E.H. Porter said:

"Sometimes I don't thing we realize how cheap energy prices are here in the US. I was in France last week; $4/gallon is considered cheap there."

Apples & Oranges I'm afraid. The continued education of those who would compare U.S. price per gallon vs Canada, U.K., *France*, et. al still amazes me after all this time.

One more time, here goes:

The reason Canada, U.K., *France* pay so much per gallon is that they are taxed enormously on a per gallon basis by their own governments to support all the socialistic welfare programs they choose to run.

Ain't Gonna -- Well, heavens, I just got quoted! Is this my 15 minutes of fame? Now the question -- how much are fuel taxes in France? You say "The reason Canada, U.K., *France* pay so much per gallon is that they are taxed enormously on a per gallon basis by their own governments to support all the socialistic welfare programs they choose to run."

Now, I'm always willing to be corrected. And, what you say seems a little improbable, but not impossible. So, correct me if I'm wrong. How big is the tax in France? I'd have to be a lot to make up for the about $2.50 - $3.00/gal difference in prices between the US and Europe. But, on the other hand, I suspect that you are correct in stating that taxes are higher in Europe. But, how much higher?

Facts, please.

I only can quote from a time about 4 years ago.

Of the DM 1.65 / liter gasoline DM 1.09 where taxes.

At that time the exchange course was about 1.5:1.

there are about 3.75 liters to a gallon.

So, 1.65x3.75= DM 6.19 per gallon = $4.13 per gallon.

Out of this there are 1.09x3.75= DM4.09 on taxes.

That is in US $ 4.09/1.5= $2.73 per gallon!

Shortly after they raised the taxes on gas again and just in the last few month they did it again.

So yes it IS cheap in the US.

Ain't: What a revelation - "Taxes on gas are higher in Europe." What insight.

Adjusted for inflation, today's US price is about 20 cents. That's about what it was in the 1950s.
