Aperture problem GT-E

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MINOX FAQ : One Thread

Hello,

At the moment I'm travelling throughout S-E-Asia, and my Minox GT-E is giving me some problems: the lens-aperture doesn't open any further than f8, although de aperture ring on the lens moves all the way, so I think it must be something mechanical. My questions are: Is it worthwhile having it repaired, and what will the costs apr. be? Does anyone know if it's possible to have it repaired somewhere in Kuala Lumpur (Malysia) because that's where I am? Or if not, is there a reliable shop in KL to buy a new one?

thanks for your information,

Hugo

Hugo, you might want to talk to Raymond Tan at Keat Camera there. I don't have the address, you might want to check the telephone directory. Also, here is a listing for a dealer from the Minox site in Germany:

Malaysia Schmidt Scientific Sdn. Bhd. 5th Floor, Wisma Domain No. 18 A, LOT 318, Jalan 51 A/223 46100 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan +60 - 3-75 77 122

Hugo, there is another Minox dealer listed in Singapore:

Schmidt Scientific (Pte.) Ltd.

No. 2-4 Jalan Kilang Barat

Singapore 0315

Hugo, there are two reasons I can thing of

1 The gear between the aperture blade assembly and the aperture ring may be loose. try to rigle the ring slightly outward, turn the ring slightly then push the ring slighty inward, try a few time.

2. You might have turn the ring to hard toward the f16 end and broke some of the gear.

If the camera is still under warrnaty, send it to a dealer

Click on 'Publisher" button on top bar and go to static page "Minox Photography" in the "info" section look for minox dealers world wide for a dealer in your area.

In "Minox and I" thead, there is posting from a member in KL, you may email him for infomation.
