The Heart of Orchid

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

Nikon N-70, Nikkor 105/2.8 macro lens on tripod, Fuji Provia 100F. Natural light. The picture was taken in a garden. How to improve the perspective, especialy in the center of the orchid?

I grow orchids and love to photograph them. What bothers me about this image is the bright areas around the throat of this phael. It distracts the eye away from the visual point of the image. I would have cropped it a little to emphasize the central area also. Nice color saturation. James

If that's Provia 100F, I hope for your sake that it's either a really bad scan or an enlargement of a small portion of a 35mm slide. Otherwise, there's no reason why the grain should be that big. According to Fuji's specs and concurring independent tests, 100F should have a smaller grain size than Velvia. I have TMZ (T-Max 3200) photos with smaller grain than this.
