Yashica Mat

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Buy/Sell/Trade : One Thread

I just bought a Yashica-Mat TLR. Love the camera. Anyone know if and where I can buy a cable release for the camera? How about filters? Can I make a universal filter system work? Are filters available for the camera?

Thanks.

Hi,

The Yashica-Mat requires a Leica Nipple screw in cable release adaptor. It's a little adaptor that screws over the shutter release providing U with a screw-in socket for a normal cable release. I just bought one(Hama brand) for my Yashica 635(AUD$16) last week. Try yr local photo store - they still might have them available.Otherwise I'd be happy to help U get one.

Filters are still available - check Pacific Camera - they sell generic Bay 1 filters. They also carry Bay 1 to 52mm filter adaptors which allow U to use 52mm filters or the Cokin (A/P) filter system with the camera.

The regular screw on cable release fits my Yashica-Mat 124G just fine. You do have to push the release all of the way in as the length of the shutter release on the camers is quite a bit longer than the one on my 35mm Minolta. I do occasionally have a little problem with "side-load" on the shutter release from the weight of the cable.

I havn't tried any of those pneumatic releases.

Hi.I am looking for a bay 1 to 52mm adapter, and this is the first I've heard of one.

Is there a website or phone number for pacific camera?

If there is, would you please forward it to me so I can purchase an adapter?

Thanks in advance!=] Lindsey

I bought a Yashica Mat about a year ago and immediately picked up a lens hood and orange filter. I think the store is called Camera Depot and is somewhere in California. They have a website which I think is www.cameradepot.com. I have heard of the bayonet 1 to 52mm adapters but I would think it would interfere with the operation of shutter speed and aperture dials. A standard Nikon cable release for the old F and F2 works on the Yashica Mat. You do have to remove the silver ring surrounding the Yashica's shutter release button first. Paul
