Carter's Attitude

greenspun.com : LUSENET : New England Motocross Racing : One Thread

In Southwick last weekend, April 3rd, Scotty Carter made a fool of himself. He was a kicking and beating up a rider on the track. The rider "got in his way" so Carter flipped out. He started to yell at him on the track & off the track. When they were coming of the track after the finish line jump, he started to kick him. When they got off the track and the guy started to push his bike back to his truck Carter wouldn't knock it off. He kept kicking him as the guy was walking away. The guy didn't hit Carter back because he knew that he would get thrown out. Another expert rider (who shall remain annoymous) said something to Carter and he flipped out on him too. I was just wondering why Carter can get away with this and no one else could? If you any comments please write back. Thank you!

P.S. Beware of Scotty Carter!!!!

He got suspended for 46 days!!!, he didn't get away with it.

I wasn't there, but it sure doesn't set a very good example for the other riders too see ! I hope in the 46 days he has a chance to think about the impression he made. I think he could have handled it like an Expert as the Title he carries.Motocross isn't a fighting match.

well i would like to alter miss peggy belmores' answer. i am afraid that she has given me inaccurate information. the correct information is that scotty carter got a 46-day suspension because he threatened 2 referees. him getting suspended had nothing to do with the incident when he was kicking the other rider. if he hadnt threatened the refs, then he would have gotten away with the entire incident with the other rider. the refs saw this incident but he would have gotten away with it because he is scotty carter so he is special.

You got to give the guy Carter unloaded on credit for keeping his cool, if it were me recieving that crap i would have flattened him fast, and raced nema till my suspention for breaking Carter's face was over!!!!!

The story I heard is that the lapper got in Carter's way and caused him to lose the race to Wally Silva. This might not be a big deal to someone that has a 4 year old bike and only races once a month when its sunny out and their wife lets them, but Carter is an expert *the defending champion* and this is his PROfession. If someone at your work did something that lessened your weekly paycheck, sure as hell you'd be mad. I'm not saying I expect a lapper to stop and let the leaders fly by, but they should slow down, or atleast move out of the main line so as to not interfere with the riders actually battling for the lead. I don't think that what Carter did after the race is acceptable, but I also understand where he is coming from- as similar things have happened to me recently. Since all NESC riders are forced to pay $29 to join the AMA before we can race- maybe they should use some of that money and follow the lead of the flagship AMA supercross and invest in those ever so handy blue flags to let lappers know when the leaders are coming. And I'm spent. Later...

This is the same circuit were a novice will ram you over a berm to prevent you from passing him for 11 place in the first moto, after he has blocked you for a lap and a half. Maybe scott is a representive of NESC.

i know how NESC works. ive been there for 6 years now. i understand why scotty carter might get angry about someone getting in his way but he just got way to carried away. on the track it is somewhat acceptable but off the track it deffinatly isnt. he took the incident way to far and he wasnt even punished for it at all. i think that he gets away with these things just because he is scotty carter and he is one of yvons butt boys so he can get away with it.

...So to sum it all up, you're a huge of Carter, right???

(((ride fast)))

-- Garrett (motoxer@wpi.edu), April 11, 2000.

He got 14 days for unsportsman-like conduct and 31 days for threatening a ref. = 45 days. Barry, the second ref. was involved because the kid he pulled the crap on was the other ref's son, Jenkins and Mr. Jenkins deferred the issue to Barry.

The question at hand isn't what expert has the right to be fast but to be able to deal with the current racing situation at hand in a PROFESSIONAL manner, every body on that track at that time is an EXPERT rider, not experts mixed with novices! Granted some are faster but it's all experts. the pro's have the same situation, what? nobody's ever lapped in supercross or outdoors? Mcgrath never passes lappers? The point is Carter as an expert should be able to deal with these situations and realize that lappers may think they are dicing with a racer that's trying to get his position, how many people can look behind them to see what's coming all the time? I'm not saying Carter doesn't have a right to be mad he does! Just keep it to words next time.

Well everyone (including me) seems to agree that Scott was very wrong for what he did. And some of us understand how he could get so upset. I wasnt there but, how come more people didnt tried to calm Scott down. I mean he was really pissed and probably not thinking straight but what about his friends, family, teammates or anyone in our "community"?? Mabey if someone who knows him had grabbed him and said "hey look bud...youre gonna get suspended or mabey arrested...calm down" he would have come to his senses quicker.

I AM NOT defending someones poor decisions and worse actions, but unfortuanlty, these things probably will happen from time to time and how we as a "community" handle them is just as important!

As for the rider who DID try to help out...thanks from all of us!

Id like to hear Scott Carter's version of the story in this MSG board!
