OT: question for Calif, Michigan & Texas folks

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

I'd like place a newspaper ad for a property that I am putting up for sale. Can anyone recommend newspapers for these states that would be good to advertise in, and web site addresses if any?

Thank you!

Answers

aq,

California is kind of a big place. What area is your property in?

L.A. TIMES and O.C. Register

aq,

The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press. I'm not sure, but I believe those papers are distributed pretty much statewide. Classified Ads (for both papers -- they're affiliated): (810) 977-7500

If you could pinpoint your location it would be helpful. Good luck.

aq,

The first two answers are most correct in my opinion, would need to know the location of your property, but then as has been stated Calif.,is big, and off the coast, property is el-cheapo.(That's Spanish for next to nothing.) But in the LA, San Francisco, San Diego areas, it's higher than a cats back. Here in my desert area, a fixer-upper and five acres can be had for around $20,000.

I would suggest you go into the Drudge Report, pull up some of the local papers he always lists, for his news reports, and from there you can get into many of the large newspapers.

Good luck to you.

Thanks loads. I'm not familiar with O.C. Register, but will check it out (url anyone?). Dallas Morning News looks like my best bet in Texas. Appreciate all the good tips.

aq,

You still haven't mentioned what specific locales you want to target. You could try the San Francisco Chronicle or Examiner, The San Jose Mercury News, The San Diego Union-Tribune, or quite a few others. If any of these interest you, I'll dig up some URL's.

The SD Union-Tribune's my local paper. Here's a link: SignOn San Diego

Ah, San Diego. One of America's LEAST affordable places to live...

Dee,

Remember when there used to be two daily newspapers there? Once upon a time there was competition in the American news media.

I used to live in San Diego back when there were a lot less people, and it was really pleasant (1973-1980). Lived in North Park, Mission Hills, down by the Stadium (Rancho Mission Road), up in University City, and even Penasquitos.

The girls in SD are nice, but they tend to be more blonde and bimbo as a group when compared to the SF Bay Area.

If you think San Diego is expensive, try Palo Alto!

Flash -

I visited an old family friend in San Jose a while back and was shocked at housing prices. How can any non-high-tech types live up there? San Diego still has a few affordable areas (like North County); you just have to put up with a 1-hour commute to live there.

Re SD grrrlz: I'm a boring old married guy, so my serious interaction with attractive blondes is pretty much limited to talking with my wife and daughter. SD has beaucoup beaches and fabulous weather year 'round, so I would think you're much more likely to meet "surf-babes" here than up in the chilly Bay Area. Now compare sci-tech types in BIOCOM areas here with geekettes in SF/SJ and I suspect it'd be a draw.

Sorry, aq. We seem to have hijacked your thread somewhat...
