NUCLEAR GIANT IN COURT CHARGED WITH SAFETY BREACHES

British Nuclear Fuels is to appear in court in Whitehaven, Cumbria, charged with alleged breaches of safety at its Sellafield reprocessing plant.

The nuclear giant faces two charges relating to a release of concentrated nitric acid which left two workers with burns.

Seven cubic metres of the potentially highly toxic material were released during work on a valve at Sellafield's solvent treatment plant in March last year.
