Title: Outage Affects 18,000

Power Out for Almost 40 Minutes

April 5, 2000

About 18,000 Colorado Springs Utilities customers were without power for 40 minutes Tuesday afternoon because of an underground equipment failure.

Most of northern Colorado Springs went powerless at 3:20 p.m.

The failure affected customers north of Garden of the Gods Road, south of Voyager Parkway, east of 30th Street and west of Powers Boulevard.

"The electric outage was caused by an underground equipment failure at our Cottonwood substation in the Briargate area," said Utilities spokesman George Dushan. "It occurred at 3:20 p.m., and by 3:59 we had all customers' power restored."
