I don't know if the NESC will ever cap the membership, but as far as numbers are concerned they will issue the same numbers to different riders as long as they are not in the same class. Also, I heard that new this year some riders will be forced to run a small three inch letter after their number, so that the NESC will be able to distinguish who's who.

i dont think there is a limit of riders in the nesc the will prob give u a # that someone else has as long as you arent in the same class. this weekend is middleboro try there see u at the races doug

Forced to wear a 3inch letter is the perfect way of putting it! Even though you worked hard as an amatuer to earn your expert plates and renew your # on time every year they can FORCE you to wear a V or Y so they can use your number for someone else! They really don't care how much you spend and how much you love the sport they will do what they want. Unfortunatly the riders never have any say in matters that effect them unless they have the right connections.

NESC isn't full. They will accept new members. A 3" V (VET) or 3" Y (Youth) was instituted this year because of the vast number of riders and overlapping numbers. For instance; my kid is eligible to run the 80, 112 open and 125 Youth class. It's more cost effective to have one number with the Y to cover all three classes than to have a multitude of plates/backgrounds and gear. I don't like it either but I guess for now it's the lesser of two eviles. I know that they had a lot of negative feedback on the letter (try fitting 3 6" numbers and a letter on a 80 plate... of derr.... after having shirts lettered and backgrounds done). I can't speak for them but I will talk to the rider reps. and the people I do know and see if any plans are in the works for doing something better or different in the future. I DO appreciate the sensitivity to "earning" that number and just what it means to racers. Hang in there.

hopefully it won't be to late to "hang in there" to get your # back after nesc has given it away to another rider. Unfortunately it looks like who you are and who you know is all that matters with nesc, because if you really look around you will see youth riders and vet riders that are and will not be included in the new rule. The rider reps are probably going to tell you the same thing as the president or vice-president if you went to them since they are all not voted in by the riders they just become on the commitee by some alien vote.
