Does Media Matter on VCDs?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

That4s my problem: I have a Sony CDRW and since I4m just trying to do some VCDs, I4m using a Sony CD-RW media. I use the CD Maker that comes with Sony. It was OK to mount and burn the VCD, but my DVD player couldnt play. It just wrote "no disc". Since I4ve made an audio CD with the same media and it didn4t played in any CD player, I would like to know if there is some kind of media that is suitable for VCDs. What is the best: gold, silver, blue, grren or what? Thank you very much!

it could be that your dvd player does not read video cds, OR it may read video cds, but not cdr/cdrw media. What kind of player is it??

Hi! It does read VCDs 1.x/2.0 , at least is in the manual. The model is Gradiente (quite common in Brazil) and it doesnt mention nothing about CDR/CDRW. Altought it can play any DVDs and CDs, I dont have any VCD original to try... Have you tried to do your own VCDs? What kind of media do you use?

Yeah, i bet thats the problem it will read video cds, but not the cdr/cdrw media, this is common in some dvd player models (most though that cannot read cdrs, seem to pick up cdrws for the record). I have the pioneer 525 as my main machine and that reads so far any cdr i have thrown at it. Generally speaking i use "verbatim", or "memorex" cdrs. Hope this helps

use light blue CDR. Most CDRW work too. My DVD player can only read light blue CDR and rejects all green CDR. I use Princo CDR.
