I have to write a speech about the work of any author I want and I chose E. A. Poe. I have to chose a poem he wrote, analyse it, and tell why he wrote it, if he wrote it about a certian person, place or thing. Hi, I also have to analyze "Annabel Lee" and I'm having a little bit of trouble. If anyone can tell me where Poe lived when Virginia died that would be a big help. He always refers to it as by the sea, but I can't find where they were living. Also, if anyone can tell me where she was buried, I also think that she buried near the ocean. As to what I can find regardign where Poe was living at the time of virginias death. I found that they moved to New York in 1844, two years after Virginias fist blood cough and three years before her death. It is possible that they could have moved again but I am not for certain.

I have to do a paper about Poe, also, and I found out that a little while before Virginia's death, they moved to a small cottage by the ocean. Thats probably what he talks about in the poem. I'm not sure where she was buried but its probably safe to assume is was near the cottage.

Virginia (Clemm) Poe was originally buried in New York in 1847. When Edgar was finally buried in Baltimore's Westminster Cemetery the remains of Virginia were moved to the Baltimore location so that Edgar Allen, Virginia and Mary Clemm could rest in peace together for eternity. As I see it, Poe took the true meaning of Annabelle Lee to his grave. No one will ever really know who the piece is about and we will all forever speculate... After all isn't that what poetry is all about, the readers perception??
