Tuesday 28 March 2000 Russia test fires 2 ICBMs

MOSCOW: Russia successfully test fired two ballistic missiles on Monday from a nuclear-powered submarine in the Barents Sea belonging to its northern fleet, a news report said.

Both missiles were launched from underwater and hit their targets at a firing range on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East, according to the ITAR-Tass news and Interfax news agencies.

Russia has said in recent years that with its military so short of cash, it will concentrate its efforts on maintaining its nuclear arsenal. (AP)
