HYDERABAD (March 27): A huge fire caused massive destruction in a refrigerator manufacturing factory here at the Site area on Sunday evening.

Reports said that fire broke out in production hall and thermo godown of United Refrigeration Industries Ltd, the manufacturer of Dawlance refrigerators at around 3.15 pm. Since the factory was closed it being Sunday there were no workers inside the factory.

When the watchmen saw the flames which had also engulfed other departments, they tried to extinguish the fire through their own instruments.

However, when the situation went out of their control they called the fire brigade. Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner Rizwan Ahmed, SSP Ramzan Channa, army, rangers, and other police officials rushed to the scene and started rescue operation.

The thermo godown and production hall were completely gutted as these two sections were located close to each other. The police and rangers officials managed to protect the purchasing department and other departments by swiftly removing appliances and electronic machinery to a safer place otherwise the loss would have been much more.

Till the filing of this report the fire was still smouldering and efforts were under way to completely extinguish it. Fire tenders from Civil Aviation Authority, Kotri, Tando Allahyar and Oil and Gas Development Corporation took part in the operation which was supervised by DC Rizwan Ahmed. The DC said that short circuit was the cause of fire.
