Only hours after the "I was wrong" comes the "BUT" .............

Is Yourdon stupid, a fake or Two Faced ?

LONG ago, over a year now, Jimmy Bagga D. charged openly online that YOURDON was MANIPULATING the TB I list to SELL BOOKS. Nobody believed him and the Banshees screamed, "delete, troll, spammer".

Does anyone *doubt* Jimmy Bagga D. now??

_______________________________________________________________________________

Will next week bring "I don't expect others to understand this butt based on my 35 years as an expert in Computer Systems, the lack of reports of verified Y2k problems known as "show stoppers" is proof that I was right. Therefore, I must now retract my "I was wrong" until more time passes by........" (TRANSLATION: MY NEW BOOK "I WAS WRONG BUT I WAS RIGHT WHILE I WAS WRITING I WAS WRONG" is almost ready.)

Here only hours after "I was wrong.." we get the "BUT" from BUTTHEAD ED:

QUOTE:

If you've waited this long, it wouldn't hurt to wait another couple of weeks, when publicly-traded companies begin reporting their first-quarter profits. There were a couple of companies (names of which I've now forgotten) that had to post "early warnings" a week or so ago (as noted on one of the threads on this forum) of lower-than-expected revenues and profits because Y2K-wary companies had held off on spending during the first quarter of 2000.

SNIP:

If so, then I would venture to say that we're already experiencing far more than a "1" on the Y2K Richter scale, and it could well get worse. If you believe that the oil situation has nothing whatsoever to do with Y2K, then your assessment may well be correct...

[y2k] Do we all agree that y2k is over? Or are we still waiting?

I've noticed that there is hardly any discussion of y2k on this forum recently. There were some who claimed that we needed to wait until the end of the first quarter or even until July or the end of the year to effectively evaluate the true impact of y2k. Has everyone here come to the conclusion that y2k is over and its imnpact negligible?

Dale Way, Infomagic and Cori Hasmaski gave the impression that there would be a gradually cascading wave of small glitches that would eventually have sistemic effects. Any word on that? Or is it over? Can we sound the all clear?

I realise that there are serious concerns over the stock market, the economy, world politics (China and Taiwan) and various and sundry enviromental problems (global warming- solar flares) but I for one would like to put the period on the end of the y2k phase at some appropriate point, take a deep breath, smoke a cigar and get ready to face these other crises.

Thoughts? I would say that up to this point, y2k has barely been a "1" on the famous 0-10 disaster scale. ----------------------------------------- yourdon

JoseMiami,

If you've waited this long, it wouldn't hurt to wait another couple of weeks, when publicly-traded companies begin reporting their first-quarter profits. There were a couple of companies (names of which I've now forgotten) that had to post "early warnings" a week or so ago (as noted on one of the threads on this forum) of lower-than-expected revenues and profits because Y2K-wary companies had held off on spending during the first quarter of 2000.

Aside from that, another part of the answer to your question depends on whether you assume that the current oil situation is at least partly caused by Y2K glitches in some of the oil-producing countries. If so, then I would venture to say that we're already experiencing far more than a "1" on the Y2K Richter scale, and it could well get worse. If you believe that the oil situation has nothing whatsoever to do with Y2K, then your assessment may well be correct...

Good thinking and analysis cpr!! What an incredible labor of love and life's work has uncovered this. What a wonderful life's calling, being the hall monitor who reports every time Ed Yourdon farts! You are doing the world a FANTASTIC FAVOR--a favor it does NOT deserve after the way it treated your Y2K debunking--by posting this information.

But, nothing new is on the horizon. Eventually you will have to stop trying to save the world from the evil Darth Yourdon, won't you? Surely it is affecting your opportunity to enjoy life. You only get one, you know. You've earned your rest after single-handedly rescuing Mankind from the brink of eternal damnation in the pits of FUD!!

FOCUS-Xircom to miss Q2 expectations, cites Y2K

03/24/00

(Recasts, adds analysts' forecast)

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., March 24 (Reuters) - Xircom Inc. , which makes products that enable computers to connect to networks, said on Friday its quarterly earnings would fall short of Wall Street expectations, due in part to Y2K issues.

The company forecast fiscal second-quarter earnings of 30 to 35 cents per share, excluding certain items. Analysts' consensus estimate is 56 cents, according to First Call/Thomson Financial.

Xircom said revenue would range between $108 million and $110 million.

In the first quarter, ended Dec. 31, the company reported earnings of 55 cents per diluted share, excluding acquisition-related costs.

"The first half of the (second) quarter got off to a slow start in our access card business due to an extended Y2K freeze on notebook roll-outs at several of our large enterprise customers," said Dirk Gates, Xircom's chairman, president and chief executive officer.

"Sell-through of access cards from our distribution and OEM partners has improved considerably in the last several weeks and has returned to the levels we expected entering the quarter. We are encouraged by the continued strong demand for our new product lines, including our PortStation and PortGear USB Port Expansion solutions, and the Rex wearable information accessory, where we expect 40 percent sequential unit growth this quarter," he said.

The company was to hold a conference call with analysts later today. It will report second-quarter earnings on April 17.
