Is Agfa Portriga Rapid paper definitely discontinued?

If so, does Agfa have a replacement?

Yes, the Portriga Rapid is history. The new paper is the Multicontrast Classic 118. Some people like it better, but most of us Portriga Rapid users don't. It's sad that the world becomes too much digital and lifeless. The "feeling" disapears and the newer generations of photographers don't even know what a camera is, only that it's a piece of plastic with a glass-something and a computer...

all i can say is "amen".

Hey, amen. Are you Connie or an impostor, like me?

Actually the real Portriga went off the market years ago. Something about the cadmium in the emulsion made it unacceptable to the EPA was the rumor. Agfa apparently tried to reformulate the emulsion, but it was never the same.

I heard that the paper companies said that, but, I truly do not beleive it was for the sake of profit. The newer papers are much less expensive to make and market and it was their excuse to do so.

Connie

P.s. who is the imposter and how are they able to do that??

By the way, the last couple of days, I've been trying to get some decent black and white prints on Agfa Classic 118 paper, from images shot on Kodak 400 CN film. Now there is a challenge to make you question your line of work.

P.s. figured out how my email adress was used (duh)I'm an artist, not a computer whiz. Connie

How come when I was prowling around some darkroom supply store opposite Duggal in New York (19th St & 5) I saw packs of Portriga Rapid 111?

Offered for sale here a month ago...

well, im talking about Portriga 118 (matt) and I'm not familiar with the 111 but I would take a look at the expiration date for sure. I dont think I would be interested in any Portriga 118 anymore because it would be very old and probably not good. Maybe they are still making the 111; does anyone know. Just out of curiosity, let me know if you check the date on the 111 in that NY store. Connie

Connie: I'm in Tokyo, so I have no way of going back to New York to check. But you may want to look at the link above and give them a call or email to find out. I remember reading in the Agfa site about a year ago that they would continue Portriga 111 in small quantities as long as customer demand justified it. I just don't understand why we all stopped using this paper; maybe with the revival in warmtone fashion, Agfa will revive the paper. I know this does not answer your question fully, but its all the information I have.

I have found Portriga in stock at both B&H and Freestyle this afternoon. B&H wants $74.95 for a 50 sheet box of 11x14, and Freestyle wants $85.95.
