Plane from D/FW slides off runway at Killeen

03/22/2000

Associated Press

KILLEEN, Texas An American Eagle plane carrying 33 passengers and three crew members slid off the runway as it landed at Killeen Municipal Airport Tuesday night.

Airline spokesman Chris Chiames said Flight 3789 was coming from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport when it made the rough landing on a wet runway.

The incident occurred around 7:05 p.m.

There were no injuries, but one passenger hyperventilated and was taken to a hospital for observation.

Chiames said the nose gear on the Saab 340B turboprop collapsed, but it was unclear whether that happened before or after the plane slid off the runway.

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were being notified.
