Hawaiian airlines carry-on

Has anyone had experience with Hawaiian Airlines carry-on luggage restrictions? I phoned them & was told I could have 2 9x14x22 inch bags but they could only weigh a maximum of 10 lbs each. That would be a big, light bag. Does anyone know if they enforce the 10 lb maximum?

Hi Val;

I have flown Hawaiian Air numerous times (both inter-island and trans-Pacific) and the operator's ten-pound quote sounds really fishy to me! If you check their web site at http://www.hawaiianair.com/corporate/carriage.asp, you will see that they don't actually state a weight limit on their carry-ons explicitly in section 205C. HOWEVER, if you go down to the section 220B, they tell you that your three-piece luggage weight limit is 70 pounds for the first item, 70 pounds for the second, and 41 pounds for the third. And since they allow two check-ins and one carry-on, you can extrapolate that the carry-on weight limit is 41 pounds. That's a lot closer to what you're probably accustomed to with other airlines.

One more thing: In all the time I have flown Hawaiian, I have never had them weigh my carry-ons, ever. They don't even have a way to WEIGH your bags. The only exception is if you are flying a puddle jumper to Molokai or Lanai; depending on the airplane model they are flying, they might ask you for *YOUR* body weight because they need to tweak the load balance on the small planes!!!

Hope that helps.

Enjoy your visit to Hawaii, and feel free to email me if you have questions specific to your trip.

Thanks, Lani. I think that is what I wanted to know. The Hawaiian Airlines Corporate link was very useful. I had looked at the Hawaiian Airlines site without realizing that the baggage info was under Corporate.

Just got back from Hawaii, traveling on Hawaiian Airlines. Had no trouble getting the max size carry-on bag plus a book type backpack as carry-on luggage on Hawaiian or American Eagle. Nexttime I will take even less.
