vote for gambling games

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

Vote concerning 4 games (maybe more - I don't know) : goldstar-goldstbl-csk227it-csk234it

There are in mame since a long time ago , but have been erased (without any official vote ) from marp since they disappeared in m36rc1

The question is : as they DID exist shall we keep them on marp ?

My vote : yes

Waiting for yours ...

Well, I would like to add Street Fighter Zero to that as well... I realise it has since been added to MESS, this isn't the MESS Action Replay Page. (and I want my 100 pts back)

Besides, if you're going to remove games that have been removed from MAME, then you just might as well use the latest MAME version and that's that. Of course, that would free a fair amount of disk space for me, with all those 0.36 betas on my HD.

My vote is to keep them, although I don't personally care for the gambling games, I want SFZ back... MARP should support all versions of MAME 0.30 and up (those that can record), not just the latest one.

I vote to keep them, even though they are lame, marp can support them and they do require some skill (luck) to play.

aren't 10+ gig drives are in the low 100$s? my total archive of all dos mame executables (since mame30) and a good portion of winmames is 108M, and with a little script to automatically pick the version from the zipfile download name this is a reasonable waste of the full percentage point of disk space.

There is no vote to be had here.

The games will be kept in the archives (*gamename) but we will not be awarding points for them. They will not be gone, but first on them will be a matter of pride (if you are truly proud of spinning a whell for hours) instead of points.

Sincerely, Q.T.Quazar

"there is no vote to had here" you said ... why not ??? Is marp community a democracy or are you the only decider ? Can you ignore Barry or Chad 's advices ? I know that some players want the deletion of these games but obviously others don't : it deserves a vote , no ?

ps : there is probably nothing to choose between "spinning a wheel for hours" and deleting other's recordings for days , but I choose the first

Also sincerely

This is not a matter of democracy or about my "personal dictatorship" and it insults me that you would address me as such in public on the message board. What "rules" I may apply are based not on personal vindictiveness but rather on the powers granted to me by the admins at MARP to regulate the rules of the site. Obviously you have little regard for other players and even less for the rules Mr. Lamat. You want to talk about deletions. Fine. Let's talk about deletions. How about deleting your Gun Dealer scores, where you claim 30 and 31 rounds survived on a game that is unplayable at half that number? How about your deliberate and repeated use of autofire and slowdown in games? How about the well-known fact that you cheated in Tournament 2 by slowing down games like Crystal Castles, and were literally forced to withdraw BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT FOOLING ANYONE, Mr. Lamat! Not a single player at this site believes you scored 300 on League Bowling. Not one! You want to complain about democracy, then you start obeying the law of democracy, Mr. Lamat. L'egalite.

Maybe next time before you post something to the ignorance of your last post you will read the previous thread where we discussed the removal of the gambling games, and the fact that they were being taken out by Nicola because he no longer wants them to be a part of MAME. We at MARP are as bound to Nicola's whims as the fact that there is an M in MARP, and we do not play at the It-Was-Once-Emulated-In-MAME-But-Then-It-Was-Removed-Action-Replay-Pag e. The archives were settled on as a compromise, where players could still demonstrate their skill, but would not be awarded leaderboard points for them. This decision was already found to be satisfactory by the majority of players, and not requiring a vote, and thus the lack of response to your post. Surprise, surprise.

You're a cheat Mr. Lamat. Many people have thought it, some have hinted at it, but I'm fed up and am stating it out loud. Whether anyone else wants to support me or refute me is up to them. I've had it with your antics. Cheaters never win, and I will do my utmost to make sure of that.

Sincerement, Q.T.Quazar

I personally don't think that this should be the Only-the-latest- version-of-MAME-counts-here Action Replay Page either... These games have been in MAME, isn't that all that should matter? If this is a democracy, then let the vote continue.

-- Barry Rodewald (bsr@hn.pl.net), March 19, 2000.

Yes, this subject was brought up some time ago when Nicola decided that the gambling games were no longer appropriate to be included in MAME. If I recall correctly, the majority of those who responded felt that the gambling games were fairly weak games inasfar as showing a player's video game skills. I participated in submitting inps for some of these games, however I fully understand the objections of those who felt that deletion of these games was needed. Delete 'em...I really don't care. And neither did I whine about having my Track and Field/ Hypersports scores being deleted...I didn't agree with it, but I respected the majority rule as this is the essence of "democracy", isn't it? And I believe that democracy was in practice with regards to the gambling games vote. Some MARPers just decided not to participate or simply didn't notice. That's really not anyone's fault but their own in that case. So, ease up on Q.T. about him being the "only decider". He's not and never will be. As a matter of fact, Q.T. and Gameboy9 go to great lengths to make most every decision involving MARP "democratic".

As far as Q.T.'s allegations, I think I've clearly stated my position a few months ago. It has been one of the factors that has contributed to my absence at T3 and MARP in general.

I also remember - although I did not participate in - the discussion involving the gambling games and the resultant agreement that they should be excluded from leaderboard points but left there if anyone wanted to upload recordings.

Like JoustGod, I also have been absent recently from MARP partly because of the changes recently and to me obvious signs of cheating in games through either slow-mo type programs or under spec'd machines.

I've also been recently concentrating all my game playing time to participation in the Deca2000 tournament due to there actually being something to play for at the end of the tournament.

Will I be back at MARP after June 2000, probably as we seem to be doing a good job of cleaning up on all the crap recordings for now and hopefully it will stay that way.

Cheers, BeeJay.

Personally, I have been on the outside just because I don't like the way things are going on here, but I feel I must speak here. I absolutely agree with QT about the cheating, unfortuately it happens, but it isn't something to be condoned, and was one of the reasons I haven't been in a tournament since #1. Personally, I balk at the notion that the "gambling" games are nothing more than spinning a wheel, as I have said before, would put Poker Ladies in that group, but there are some nudies in it, so it stays. Nice sense of morality on that one.

-- Chris Parsley (cparsley1@hotmail.com), March 20, 2000.

I don't ignore the precedent thread about gambling games , but the position of everyone wasn't very clear to me (remember I don't speak a very good english) and there wasn't to my knowledge any official rule on this subject . So that's why I proposed a vote . Not more

It's obvious , QT , that you're very proud of your "powers" as you said , but YOU don't respect the rules you've written yourself : VIOLATION OF RULES 1a AND 1b ! So t3 will be the only answer to all your grunts against me ( I just wanna add that using autofire when it wasn't banned wasn't a violation but just a convenience used by many other players...I never uploaded an autofire input since the law passed)

-- phil (plamat@club-internet.fr), March 20, 2000.

I did not break rules 1a and 1b. I made no statements in my own post which were untrue, and YOU are the only player so far who has not e-mailed me privately about any problems regarding games/deletions. Furthermore, you accused me of being undemocratic and spending hours deleting, whereas I only made a flippant comment about "spinning wheels," which I think most people would agree with.

What T3 has to do with anything is beyond me...? I withdrew last week when I became fed up of playing Gauntlet 2 and decided to start studying for final exams. Was I supposed to prove something?

So Phil, I'll make you an offer. I'll retract any comments that I have recently made and that you find offensive, on one condition: that you personally delete any and all scores of yours that you know were achieved at a slower-than-regular speed, excessive pausing, or by 'splicing' recordings.

I think that's a fair proposition. What say you?

-- Q.T.Quazar (qan@home.com), March 20, 2000.

I say ok ... just need a few days ; I have a lot of inputs on marp , some made more than 2 years ago , I don't remember for all of them if I use auto or not so I will study all that in april . Too much work for the moment (studants' exam papers to correct - this is the period ) and I'm not even sure to have time to contain Ben Jos 's comeback in t3

To Steve : pause is not a problem for fax, the problem is that the same questions are coming always in the same order
