Avro-Arrow

The first man to fly the legendary Avro Arrow will be honoured at a special ceremony in Cold Lake, Alberta. The main building at the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment at the 4-Wing Cold Lake base is to be named in honour of test pilot Janusz Zurakowski. Zurakowski was chief test pilot for Avro Canada and was also involved in the development in the CF-100 jet fighter. He flew the Avro Arrow, one of the most advanced jets of its time, on its maiden flight in March of 1958. The Arrow was scrapped in 1959 on the orders of Prime Minister John Diefenbaker.
