Sigma 15mm Diagonal Fisheye

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I have been interested in trying a lens such as the Sigma 15mm diagonal fisheye lens. I have not liked the circular image of ordinary fisheye lenses, but the idea of a fishey that fills the 35mm frame intrigues me.

You comments on such lenses in general and the Sigma lens in particular would be welecome.

Hi,

I'm interested in this lens too... at the moment thinking about the 14 mm 2,8 Sigma 114° or the 15 mm diagonal fisheye 180°.

Is there anyone out there who have some digitized pictures or experience with the fisheye? I don't know how high the level of distortion is...

I've used the Sigma 15mm f/2.8 diagonal/semi fisheye on a Nikon N80 with reasonable results. Anything with straight lines (other than those passing through the center of the picture) show distortion of course, but a number of landscape shots came out pretty nice. You would be hardpressed to notice any distortion (no frame of reference) and you get a nearly 180 degree wide angle view. I haven't used the Nikon version, so I can't say if it's worth the extra money. I've seen a dozen or so reviews on some of the other websites of the Nikon and Sigma semi-fisheyes and every reviewer gave a 5 out of 5 rating.

I have a similar question. Is there any advantage to getting the Canon 14 (or 15mm???) Fisheye lens over the Sigma one of the same focal length?? The lenses weight 3 ounces different and have different numbers of lenses (the Canon has one extra lens), so they seem to be distinctly different in construct

I just ordered the Sigma 15mm Fisheye, so it should be here within the week. If you'd like to see pictures taken with it later, I'll probably post it on my website.

Hello

I was looking to get one of the sigma 15mm to be used on a digital slr which has about 2x maginification. so I figure this will give me a wide angle lens of 30mm. does anyone have any experience with this lens using with digital slr?.

thanks

Howard, I think the 14mm version is much heavier, and far more prone to flares. I think its also a lot more expensive.
