Andy Ray posting on old TB 2000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

Andy Ray had a "New Question" posted in his/her distinctive green script on the old TB 2000 last night. It was right at the top of the page under the Black heavy topic heading "NEW QUESTIONS."

It's gone now.

How'd he do that?

All that they did to "shut down" that forum was disable the link from the "Post A New Question" button. If you know the URL you can still post a message. They may change that now, though.

-- 123 (aaa@bbb.ccc), March 16, 2000.

carl your an idiot.

posting that may make yourdon shut down that site then we'll never have access to that information.

shame, shame, shame.

-- (TC@t home.now), March 16, 2000.

Screw you TC... if my 10 year old acted like Yourdon and his loyal fans did, taking the bat & ball and going home to play where only he could make the rules... I'd take his bat & ball and give it to the Salvation Army... let him enshrine the files on his web site if that's what he wants, then they can find it... personally, I doubt many historians are going to much give a shit about the TB2000 archives.

TB2000 had developed into more than an Ed & Diane fan club, or so I and many others thought... when they decided they wanted to control who could play and who couldn't, and moved the game to where they could control it, that was childish, self-centered, undeserved egomania...

TC:

so "".

Him

-- Him (Him@sowhat.ilb), March 16, 2000.

carl, I used to think the same way you do.

please, take a day to think about what I just said.

PLEASE???

-- (TC@t home.now), March 16, 2000.

Besides, those losers are so busy protecting their "shrine", new post don't last too long, probably have e-mail notification turned on so they can rush over from that ez-board piece of shit to delete any new questions... kinda overvalue their contribution to history....

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), March 16, 2000.

carl, slow down.

Yourdon has already said he'll close down that site if it's tampered with.

That information is more important than you or me or any of us, agreed????

-- (TC@t home.now), March 16, 2000.

Carl:

Yep, I tested it. You are correct.

Best wishes,,,,

-- Z1X4Y7 (Z1X4Y7@aol.com), March 16, 2000.

STOP!

People please stop and think about what you're doing.

Please.

Oh, my God,.... please.

-- (TC@t home.now), March 16, 2000.

TC:

Get hold of yourself. All I did was carry out a scientific test to determine if Carl knew what he was talking about [no data posted]. He was correct. Now how can I determine whether you know what you are talking about?!!! Give me a clue. I post my real address; do you?

Best wishes,,,,

Z

-- Z1X4Y7 (Z1X4Y7@aol.com), March 16, 2000.

"[no data posted]."

Breath of relief.

i'd love to tell you who I am good person

but I can't.

just know that I've had a tremendous amount of respect for you in the past, and will again in the future.

-- (TC@t home.now), March 16, 2000.

Really, "that information is more important...", jeez, get a grip TC.

The only historical inportance of TB2000 is how absolute power corrupts absolutely... in real life and on the internet. If they want to destroy their "shrine" because I left a momentary footprint before the faithful scrubbed it clean, let them.

Morons.

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), March 16, 2000.

carl, let me ask you respectfully, "have you downloaded those archives yet?"

if not, please don't mess with them.

Please, o please...

-- (TC@t home.now), March 16, 2000.

Damn it, carl! I understand your anger!

Honest I do. i used to feel the same way.

Just please dont mess with that board utill you've slept on this, puuuuleese???

-- (TC@t home.now), March 16, 2000.

So the TB2000 is still there? Why? Who wants to read that old stuff? Nothing is as dead as yesterday's newspaper.

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), March 16, 2000.

Why would I want to download them? Plenty of the "faithful" did, but I have better use for my drive space. TB2000 was a rolling discussion over thousands of topics, that got old and stale after a few days or weeks... on to the next...

Why doesn't Ed just make a cd or two, and help make up for his lost y2k income selling them to those that care to pick over old news?

I don't intend to spam the SHRINE... just express my displeasure with the pointy heads that chose to shut it down and try and force everyone to that ez-board crap and the fascist ant-free speech policies of the sysops... by the way sysop does not equal god...

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), March 16, 2000.

carl, I so agree with you. I AGREE WITH YOU.

Please just think about what I said in the morning, eh?

-- (TC@t home.now), March 16, 2000.

May I interrupt this private dialouge??

Carl-I, for one, would love to go over the old archives-This was and is a unique time in the history of mankind and these archives serve as a great resource for how men and women reacted so strongly and so convincingly about something for which no one had the answer.

I would not be happy if I could not access the sight. Do not be so selfish, Carl. This is not about you. It is about all of us.

-- FutureShock (gray@matter.think), March 16, 2000.

btw, the "faithful" only downloaded until the the 1st.

-- (TC@t home.now), March 16, 2000.

Carl,

TC was being far too polite. You, sir, are a jerk.

And that is the first and last flame I will ever do.

-- Spindoc' (spindoc_99_2000@yahoo.com), March 16, 2000.

Deleted the offense.

Carl, see your email from me.

Anyone has a problem with that, tough.

-- Old TB2K Forum Regular (freespeech@yahoo.com), March 17, 2000.

KMA Doc... now, if the TPTB over at the Yourdon camp had of offered a link to the alternatives, instead of saying, "here it is, take it or leave it" I wouldn't be so pissed. Many, many lurkers and occasional posters had no idea how to back up through Lusenet and see if someone would start an alternative forum... instead, they got "go here and register, or piss off" from the gods of TB2000...

Well, that sucked.. and you know what, so do you... why don't you wander back over to ezboard and suck up to the Yourdon faithful, instead of hanging out here? What are you doing here anyway?

I'll tell you why... because the FREE exchange of ideas and opinions was what made TB2000... the attempt to hijack everyone to a CONTROLLED site was a bunch of bullshit....

Like I said, I have no intention of "desicrating" the TB2000 shrine, just want to see that the many people like myself who hate the new site with a passion are aware there is an alternative.

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), March 17, 2000.

"uncensored"? Well, we had that questioned answered, didn't we?

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), March 17, 2000.

Carl,

Please, I'm begging you, in the name of all that's holy. Sleep, my darling,... and think about this tomorrow.

-- (TC@t home.now), March 17, 2000.

The old TB2K forum has a link to here in the "About" section.

-- Old TB2K Forum Regular (freespeech@yahoo.com), March 17, 2000.

Carl,

Respectfully, sir, you said what's most important here:

"The only historical inportance of TB2000 is how absolute power corrupts absolutely... in real life and on the internet."

-- (TC@t home.now), March 17, 2000.

TC, don't worry, I'm gonna let it be... tho the "uncensored" tag on this forum is a misnomer, I'll leave it alone.

At least this place has some of the feel of the old TB2000... better something than nothing... feel sorry for all those that were never made aware there was an alternative, although there was a misleading post made that this board was started by Mr Polly... sure that encouraged a lot of people to check it out....

And don't worry Old, I won't post the link again... but you might want to take "uncensored" off the board title... liked that "if you don't like it, tough" comment... power of censorship is heady, isn't it?

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), March 17, 2000.

Fine, Carl,

I recognize your anger, although I disagree with it. It appeared to me that you were deliberately attempting to provoke a closedown of the TB2000 archives. In my opinion, that is a totally separate issue from your disagreement with Yourdons (and others) decision to go to a closed forum.

To many, the TB2000 archives represent an historical compendium of discourse about a unique period of history, which will take a long time to sort out properly. Any attempts to force its removal from public view through tampering is no better, in my opinion, than the type of censorship you so loudly protest against.

FYI, I read this forum and the EZ board equally, and find both of them interesting, in their own way. Both have unique points of view, and that is what I am always looking for. For the record, I have posted at the EZ board twice, and here twice.

Fair enough?

-- Spindoc' (spindoc_99_2000@yahoo.com), March 17, 2000.

Spindoc:

I have no intention or desire to "force it's removal"... the threat in and of itself is ridiculous. To be perfectly honest, it was a no brainer to post to it, tho I can see the problem some might have with me making that info easily available...

As far as your equal posts to ez and here, well, I repeat, having to jump back and forth betwen water and oil stinks.. I liked the clash of wits the old board used to have.. this division into two camps sucks, the sparks are not what they used to be, know what I mean?

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), March 17, 2000.

Carl,

Agreed, if "sparks" and "clash of wits" is what one is looking for, this forum is the place to be. Obviously, that is not what the EZ board is looking for.

To each their own.

Although, I must admit, the soap opera flavor of *certain* postings of this board are best left to private email. Just my opinion. But what the heck, it does provide a certain entertainment, in a sick kind of way...

-- Spindoc' (spindoc_99_2000@yahoo.com), March 17, 2000.

P.S.

Then I'm going to call it a night.. FYI I am not a disgruntled poster banned from Yourdon's ez-board... spent some time lurking through that mess, didn't like it, never posted....

My opinion of how screwed the decision was to shut down the board, and turn it into some sort of shrine, plus the backhanded reference to this board as a possible alternative started by polly trolls, is shared by many people.

If my goal was to crash the archives, would I be posting with my real e-mail? The sysops screaming so far have not posted theirs... as a matter of fact, sysoponduty over at TB2000 linked my e-mail as his... funny... I have been in the computer industry for almost 20 years now, have no desire to "crash" anything, although I do admit I probaly could if I set my mind to it. The internet was invented for the free exchange of ideas... lets keep it that way.

Carl,

You said "As far as your equal posts to ez and here, well, I repeat, having to jump back and forth betwen water and oil stinks".

Actually, I view it as more of a blend of vinagar and oil, with some extra spices added. Makes for a much better salad, eh?

As I said, to each their own.

-- Spindoc' (spindoc_99_2000@yahoo.com), March 17, 2000.

Actually, makes for a better salad or, dare i say,do.....

I can't do it :(

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), March 17, 2000.

Carl, LOL!

Cheers,
