2nd reactor at Russia's Kolskaya nuclear plant stopped

ST. PETERSBURG, March 14 (Itar-Tass) - The second reactor of the Kolskaya nuclear plant automatically shut down on Tuesday when a low frequency converter developed power problems, an official said.

There have been no leaks, and the radiation level is in norm. The reactor shut down in the morning because there was no power in the converter's first and second leads-in, an on-duty officer at the regional emergencies center told Itar-Tass.

Under the regulations, the reactor may be put back on line in two days.

"Such stoppage of the reactor shows that the plant's automatic protection and all systems operate properly," officials at the northwestern department of Gosatomnadzor, Russia's nuclear watchdog, said.
