BAD audio capture quality (ATI All in Wonder / SB PCI 16)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Im capturing video using an ATI All in Wonder 128 and I have a SB PCI 16 card. The problem I am having is the audio capture quality SUCKS!! The capture (regardless of rate) comes out so squeaky and over modulated that it is completely useless for playback. Is this problem due to the sound card? If so what would you recommend for a good quality sound card. Or it this problem due to the limitations of the ATI All in Wonder? (God I hope not)

Thank you in advice (again) for your advice!!

Chris in the audio portion of the setup decrease the input level and this should help quite a bit. Make sure that the levels remain below the red zone at their peaks. I have the PCI 128 Sound Card and had similiar problems and found that reducing the input levels in the Audio portion of the ATI Audio tab helped significantly. TR7110

Sometimes it isn't the input on the soundcard from the line in. I had a similar problem. No matter how low I set the line in level, the sound still cracks up on me.

The problem was in the capture card's input gain level. It was set at the 60% mark but was still a tat too high especially during the action sequences where the sound peaks rapidly.
