CHICAGO - United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines have raised some round-trip fares by as much as $40 to match fuel cost-related increases by Continental Airlines last week. The airlines raised leisure and business fares by $20 for round-trip flights of up to 500 miles (800 kilometers), $30 on trips within the 501 mile-1,000 mile range, and $40 on flights of more than 1,000 miles in the United States. Continental led the industry by increasing fares by $20 in January

Northwest Airlines, a frequent holdout, has matched part of the increase on some routes and its plans have not changed, a spokesman said over the weekend. A US Airways spokesman said the airline had not yet matched the increase
