Circuit problems disrupt UW InternetLARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Circuit problems disrupted Internet service at the University of Wyoming on Friday as students and faculty prepared for next week's spring break.
Internet users were unable to send e-mail off campus or access non-university Web sites, officials said. The university alerted people about the problem several times.
Robert Morrison, director of telecommunications and system services, said he did not know what caused the day-long disruption.
"You never really know what the problem is until it's all resolved," he said.
All Internet connectivity to the university travels a circuit from Cheyenne to Denver, he said. The university receives access at the University of Colorado in Denver, which is provided by AT&T, Global Crossing and U S West.
The university may ask for a rebate from its Internet vendors for the time service was down, he said. Keith Cottam, who directs the university libraries, said the Internet disruption seemed less apparent by midday.
