Fill flash with 540EZ

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

In which camera modes will the 540 flash enter the "fill flash mode"? Will the CF in the camera control this mode, or does it relate only to a built-in flash?

The 540EZ will fill flash in all camera modes providing the speedlite is in A-TTL or TTL mode. It is dependent on the ambient light level.

We're not sure what camera you have and what CF# you're reffering to, so it's difficult to say what it will do. I do know that on the EOS 5/A2E, CF #16 will disable the auto fill flash reduction that occurs when light levels reach EV 10 or above. It will still do fill flash, but at full brightness level, so you then have to reduce it with negative flash compensation manually.

I should add:

If this is what you're reffering to then, yes, it controlls both the built-in flash and any external TTL or A-TTL flash.

Thanks guys. Yes I meant CF16 in EOS5. It's a shame that Canon's manuals don't explain all this in detail. I think they must.
