Apex AD-600X DVD player- Questions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I just got this player and I like it alot. Does anyone know if this player's features are upgradeable? I don't like some of the MP3 features like the inability to rewind/fastforward in an mp3 track, or the fact that your mp3 titles only show up to 8 characters. Also a better interface would be nice and ID3 tags/playlist support would be good.

Also, concerning the Digital Coaxial output, can I connect this output to the input of say, a minidisc recorder and record mp3's digitally?

Also, does anyone have a detailed explaination of all the features in the "loophole" selection screen (aka the secret options)?

Thanx

the digital connection on the apex is kind of weird. The Minidisc recorders i have seen use a fiber optics cable (looks almost like a telephone jack). The one on the Apex can almost pass for a coaxal cable. So i have no idea what kind of recorder out there features a digital connection like the one on the back of the apex. But of the minidisk i have seen, they have the true digital fiber optics cable connection. Your best bet would be to run it into your MD recorder via the analog way, unless you have a machine with the fiber optics on it (pioneers do)

Here is how to get to the secret menu and what you should change. Turn on the machine wait till it says "no disk" push "setup" then scroll down until "preferences" is highlighted. NOw once its highlighted push "step" then push "back" then forward" this brings you to the secret menu. On here the ONLY TWO THINGS you should touch are, macrovision"on/off" and turn the region code to "bypass" and thats it. DO NOT MESS with anything else on that page of items. your now all set to go, have fun
