Format for Gallery Submission

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo: Creativity, Etc. : One Thread

At some point I would like to try to exhibit some of my work in a gallery. Looking through The Photographer's Market, I see that most galleries request transparencies for evaluation. That's all fine and well if you're working with slides; however, most of my work is in black and white. What is the usual format for submission (through the mail) for black and white?

Slides of prints. Use a copy stand and two or four lights.

Yes, that would work. But is this (or something along these lines) the usual method that those who work in B & W make submissions?

Yes it is!

and a damn good way to be ignored or forgotten. Submit slides if that's what they ask for, but I'd put a really nice 8x10 fiber print in as well, finished like they're going to give you $500 for it. Be sure you've got return shipping taken care of, in case they don't want your stuff, but hope you never see it again unless it's framed on their office wall and you're dropping by to pick up a check... t (I give small prints to all the gallery staff on a regular basis, 4x5s finished perfectly, you catch more flies with honey, don't cha know! And the folks at my camera store and the guy that runs e6 at the lab and the folks at the front counter who write up my work orders. Discounts appear and rush charges go away. )
