I am just getting started burning my own home movies, I would like to know which format is better to use. The new mini DV vs the older 8mm. Does the new DV format have too much information? Would I be better off with the older 8mm?

Also I've heard a lot about the Panasonic encoder and several others. It seems to be a matter of opion which works the best. What is the best encoder for speed and still have quality. Could anyone help me?

DV as in Digital Video, as in firewire? which means AVI = LSX (best result). 8mm as in what are you planning to capture the clip with? analog card input type and file preference?

mpeg = Panasonic(best) avi = LSX(best)

Time wise depends on file size and CPU speed. It ranges from 1:4 up to 1:20.

Thanks for the info. Not to clear but maybe i will unserstand better as i go along. i am still not sure about the file size on the digital camcorders. how much (time) can be copied to the cd.
