Hovensa's St. Croix cat cracker restarted Sunday

NEW YORK, March 6 (Reuters) - Hovensa LLC said Monday it restarted the 110,000 barrel per day (bpd) catalytic cracker at its 545,000 bpd St. Croix refinery in the U.S. Virgin Islands on Sunday. The unit will reach normal capacity in a couple of days, it added.

The unit, part of the largest refinery in the Western Hemisphere, had gone down March 1 on emergency repairs, leading to the shutdown of a number of secondary units.

"We restarted the cracker on Sunday," said a company spokesman, "and we should be back at normal capacity in a couple of days."

Hovensa LLC is a 50/50 joint venture between Venezuela's state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela and U.S. based Amerada Hess Corp. .
