Fujitsu May Face Suit Over Leap-Year ATM Failure, Jiji Says Tokyo, March 2 (Bloomberg) -- Japan's Posts and Telecommunications Ministry may seek damages from Fujitsu Ltd., the nation's largest computer maker, over a chip malfunction caused by the leap-year computer bug, Jiji Press said. Fujitsu chips are blamed for malfunctions that caused 1,000 machines across the country to shut down. Masahito Tani, vice posts and telecommunications minister, apologized for the failure at a press conference today in Tokyo, the report said.

Some automatic teller machines in Japan stopped working and the Meteorological Agency reported glitches in its computers on Feb. 29 because of disruptions some attributed to the leap year.
