I live in Italy, how do I get certified

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Doula.Com General Discussion : One Thread

I have assisted in about 5 births, and heard some time ago about Doulas. Since then I have been very excited at the realization that this is what I would like to do. My problem is, my husband is active duty military and I never seem to get stationed in a place where I can go to any of the training courses. I have taken childbirth classes, read many books and am getting ready to be involved with two births. I would very much like to become an official "Doula". I realize that I don't have to be certified but would feel more confident approaching people. Please let me know if any of you have any advise for my situation. Thanks, Justine

Hi Justine- This sounds like a wonderful opportunity for a doula trainer to get to see a bit of the world! Many trainers will travel to you if you get a group of women together and deal with the little details of a training. You can contact DONA or ALACE. I'm not sure if ICEA does that sort of training. I know that if I were a trainer I'd be more than happy to make a journey to Italy to train some women!

Good luck- Kirsten

Hello Justine,

I am a doula trainer in Scandinavia. I can send you some information about training through our organization and a schedule of training workshops if you are interested in flying to Oslo or Stockholm in the future. You can do this training from your own home except for the training workshop. It might be cheaper for you to fly to Scandiavia than to the USA and we can try and find you a place to stay for free or for very little money.
