Great place you have here.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

I think you've got a winner here, oldregular....for more reasons than one. Personally, the format at EZBOARD didn't offend my eyes, and I like it for other reasons. I'll probably play around a bit more with it tomorrow. I set up a thread just for that purpose on People are People Y2k Aftermath

I also put a link on that forum to this place. I'll keep it up for a month or so. It could be an alternative place for y'all if something happens to Lusenet.

I spent some time checking out the latest at Ed's new forum a few minutes ago. It seems that some [Ed included] are under the impression that this Lusenet forum has been started by Y2kPro and his "colleagues." Someone even said that this forum is all "negative." I didn't see that, and I reviewed pretty much everything above your welcome tonight.

Good luck. You've done a good job. It's great to have options, dontcha think?

This is what some of them are saying. What the heck have they been reading over here? Must be something different than what I'm reading and I've read everything. The only way to have a truly informed discussion is to hear both sides, without censorship. That does not constitute a quote, "Polly love fest" as someone over there inaccuratly classified this board as. As for Ynott worrying about being outed by a moderator, I think he has his boards mixed up. He better check out where he's at. I for one am thankful that I can come here, it feels like I'm home again. And I prepared, so I'm no Polly.

Over on the NEW forum

I just wandered over there and read a few posts. It surely does look like the old forum, but have any of you read their posts yet? It SOUNDS like the debunker's forum...very negative. Whereas before we had upbeat and downbeat in the same posts...debate and counterdebate...now it reads more like a "gotcha" site. I am thus far very disappointed.

Also, Ed, as I do not know who is administering and monitoring that site, just how "safe" are we posting there? I, for one, do not relish the idea of having tons of garbage e-mail finding its way back to me. I have kids in the house who read it. I also would not care to be "outed" by one of the moderators who happens to disagree with me. So, just how safe are my posts over there? I am no computer jockey and I really don't know.

Thanks in advance end copy

I guess that some of the post on Ed's new forum can be considered sour grapes.

This forum will go on and prosper.

I for one find this forum to be of to a great start, and yes,it will take a day or two to get the mix of posts and opinions back to what is was before. A fool who would believe otherwise.

I welcome everyone positive or negative. This Planet drives on the basics of different opinions and why should a forum be different?

A forum like Ed's new forum will die a slow death.

I have seen it over and over happening in the years since I am on the net even befor it was easy to use with a nice gui.

Once censorship starts on a forum the death-call is made.

Let them be, what would happen if all the people on this forum that are NOT banned on the other forum suddenly stop posting over there?

Mr. Ed and Dianne together with the other sysops will have a "sysop only" forum.

Let them be, they are nothing but kidds that have no concept what free speech and freedom means. I personally feel pitty for them.

(((((KRITTER!)))) [grin]

I missed you yesterday. I was busy playing around with setting up a new forum. [Little did I know that Old Regular and a few others were simultaneously doing the same thing.] It never hurts to have a bunch of alternatives, however, and the learning experience was great for me. I'd almost forgotten how stupid I could be sometimes.

I've enjoyed a few of the discussions on TB2000 [especially since rollover.] It was the first time I ever really saw folks with diversely different opinions on that forum kindof throw those differences aside and see each other as people. [Of course you and I did that a long time ago.] Then again, I was only interested in perhaps 1 thread out of each 100 posted of late.

The pity was that new folks that came in after rollover who had optimistic opinions were assumed to be from the old Debunker forum. Some of the debates, I suspect, were growing just a little too EVEN versus the "old" days when one optimistic poster would get jumped by 30 pessimists. So here's a new start for everyone, and there are lots of options from which to choose now.

Anita, thanks for the good word. Yes it's good to have options.

I'm no Polly and Rick, I've been for 2 years, and still am, a fan of Yourdon. I post on Ed's EZboard and eGroups board under my real name.

I am not embittered, I do not regret my preps, and I never wished for TEOTWAWKI but prayed hard for a BITR, which to me seems like a miracle, a prayer answered. Yourdon seems as baffled as I am, and together with people like me on his Humpty-dumpty forum we've discussed why it wasn't even a "3-day storm" after the CDC. We've done collective soul-searching. I still respect Yourdon as I always have, I believe he is honest in his endeavors, but I am very disapointed that he decided to "insulate" himself from strong dissenters on private forums. Although I must say that were I in his shoes, having devoted my life for the past few years at warning people and taken all the abuse that he has, I might have done the same. I can't judge him.

I'm hoping everyone will see that this forum is not another "Debunky", but simply another "Timebomb 2000", uncensored, attracting the same kind of people that were on the old forum, doomers, pollys and in-betweens.

oldregular:

It seems to me that you have a good mix already. Personally, I enjoy diversity. SOME folks made TB2000 their home and SOME folks made Debunkers their home, while others felt more comfortable elsewhere. I've spent quite a while now visiting them ALL. I didn't care what some debunkers thought about my posting at TB2000 and I didn't care what some TB2000 folks thought about my posting at Debunkers. The choice was always mine and I was interested in pursuing thoughts from different people.

Years ago, there was a great deal of propaganda presented by an activist group regarding something happening in Oregon. I don't remember it well enough to say for sure what it was all about, but it had to do with lumbering [I think...slapping head to try and recover memory.] There I was [living in Illinois], thinking "This is really awful. It's so sad that those folks in Oregon are so myopic." Not long afterward, we vacationed in Puerta Vallarta (sp?) We met a couple who ran a Dairyqueen in Oregon...no financial interest in lumber at all. I mentioned what I'd read and learned the other side of the story. I suppose ever since that time I've felt that we can't understand ANYTHING until we hear all sides.
